Active School and Home Week

This year we had great fun during our Active School and Home Week.  Everyone in the school wore tracksuits and active homework replaced written homework.  We enjoyed many activities including Yoga, Irish Dancing, Skipping, Obstacle Courses, A Mini Sports Day, Tug of War and Basketball.  Local Sports Clubs including Orienteering and The Steam Runners Athletics Clubs provided fun activities for the whole school.  All classes used the Active Walkway and the older classes got to use the local Pitch and Putt club, The Lagoon Activity Centre and the New Tubing Park, while the younger pupils took advantage of the Local GAA Pitch.  Everyone had great fun, despite the weather and when we were unable to go outside, we used the excellent Swim Ireland Activities, Bizzy Breaks, Go Noodle and Cosmic Yoga to get active.  Our Principal, teachers, staff and sixth class all set challenges for the rest of the school to try out as part of their homework. These ranged from balancing challenges, tennis, skipping, yoga pose and football.  Mike Keohane our local sports hero and race walk extraordinaire set the boys and girls of St. Mary's Primary School a race walking challenge.
